The album, titled Residuum, started life as a series of drones created from looping and processing the sound of instruments decaying at the end of jams captured on old Massappeal practice tapes and also some rhythmic sounds of skateboard sessions in the 1980’s and early 90’s. These drones were then synced to Reimann’s drum machine and new songs were composed using lyrics mostly sourced and adapted from his journal of that same period.
Although Residuum sees Reimann mining sonic debris from his punk roots, he claims “the LP is not an indulgence in nostalgia, it is rather an exercise in excavating the vibrations of a music that was a catalyst for a spiritual awakening, and re-placing those sounds into another space and time”.
