The time has come for the collaboration to re-emerge in the form of Red Aster, complete with a new and unique sound that reflects the darkness of their varied music influences.
Red Aster’s debut EP has a sound all of its own, but Karen and David’s love for the ethereal sounds of PJ Harvey, the powerful sparsity of Adalita’s solo work, and the confident guitar of the alternative rock genre shines through in their music.
A passion for the guitar underpins this EP, however great care has been taken in the recording studio to make sure that the songs were left as naked as possible, and to keep the ‘space’ in the sound.
It has a dark rhythm punctuated by a hard-hitting lead guitar riff, which Karen matches emphatically with her unforgiving vocals.
There is a real depth to this music that is more than the sum of its many-layered parts. Karen’s vocals and lyrics are clever and mature while David’s guitar shows the skill and passion of a true music obsessive. The use of space and restraint give this EP its own truth.
