Wifey - Working With Children

Wifey - Working With Children
Sydney’s indie-pop outfit Wifey really know how to punch out a catchy tune. Seamlessly traversing the fine line between sweet country-esque harmonies and indie rock grunt, Wifey's music sabotages genres in the most endearing way.

With a sound that’s infectious yet somewhat hard to pin down, Wifey have been likened to Okkervil River, with a nod to Bonny Prince Billy and a dash of Tom Waits. Weaving well-crafted prose and violin mellifluously into arty arrangements and angular guitars, the band seem to unwittingly win hearts and minds, from both the stage and the studio.

Wifey frontman and songwriter Andy Calvert doesn't seem to mind that his band’s sound meanders as widely as the stories he tells. Dallying in dive bar disco or sweaty pub guitar wrangling in equal measure, Wifey always know how to find their way back to that which matters most, seriously good songs.

Wifey launched their much-touted album via a successful crowd-funding campaign and a series of Sydney & Melbourne headline shows in 2017/8. Following the release of their new EP in August 2019, the band is set to bring the best of their recordings and a bunch of new material to the festival circuit in 2020.

About this track...

An ironic, comical and highly catchy tune about the perils of being responsible for putting a backbone into other people’s spawn. Just try to get this chorus out of your head, after one listen! Clever harmonies and violin layer over your typical rock backline to create a textured yet pop-y song worthy of a good pre and post airing yarn.
