In Vaudrey’s debut single ‘Take Me Back’ he puts a six figure, once British Royal Family owned 225 year old cello through a series of guitar effect pedals. Whist this may seem like the ultimate ‘FU’ to the classical music world Vaudrey comes from, it is anything but. Combining an orchestral type ambience with biting electronic beats, the beautifully distorted sound of the cello and Vaudrey’s soothing yet coarse voice creates stunning and vivid soundscapes largely built off the cello.
“The cello solo in Take Me Back was actually a first take improvised bedroom solo,” Vaudrey smiles. “I just recorded it in my room and then I took it back to the studio and wrote it out but I still just loved the feel it had in that first completely improvised take.
