Eruption Bounce is essentially more songs about buildings, food and the internet. Like the Talking Heads there is a tension with the everyday minutiae of life. These songs are full of feeling but there’s not an earnest song amongst them. They are ready to explode, with just a thin layer of socialized behaviour holding it together: I Wanna Be Adult is a faint call of adult distress; Nice Building is a hopeless cry for positivity. There’s a yearning for optimism through all the songs.
Formed in 2006, the band has expanded from the one-man outfit of Ian Powne to a fully-fledged awesome foursome. Joining Ian on stage is the femme-attack of Pascalle Burton (keys and synth), Jane Elliott (bass) and Jessica Moore (drums).
When the legendary Dave Graney describes you as “weird and freaky in the most positive ways, joyous and gleeful, a beacon of creativity”, you know you must be doing something right.
