Reel Feel is due for release on February 21 through Liberation, and is the followup to 2010’s The Holidays debut album ‘Post Paradise’ which won the the Australian Music Prize’s Red Bull Award for Best Debut Album and was shortlisted for the AMP itself.
“There's the year we had when we were touring on Post Paradise, which was probably the best year of our lives,” frontman Simon Jones admits. “We were overseas and loving it, playing heaps of shows. And then I went off just writing by myself.” Jones traversed London, Berlin, Paris and Tokyo in search of “a different sound” evident in ‘Reel Feel.’
Lead singer Simon Jones describes Reel Feel as “A travelogue of the last few years, ideas sketched in different places while experiencing something; wonder, isolation, stress, happiness. Then slowly taken apart and scrutinised and run through amplifiers and synthesisers only to find that often the original feeling was the purest and then joyfully getting back to that.”
“The real hallmarks of this record are a combination of subtle electronics, fuzzy guitar and live drumming,” Jones observes. And if Post Paradise remains on high rotation, fear not. “If people liked the first album enough, then they should like this one,” he assures.
About this track...
The song is a statement of intent and progress. From the opening chords to the last swirling seconds of auditory bliss, it’s apparent that the stakes have been raised and the lights turned out. The Holidays in essence, all grown up.
