Smiley Martin - Jacaranda

Smiley Martin - Jacaranda
Born in Lismore NSW to hard-working parents, banana growers on the escarpment above Byron Bay, young Smiley Martin was gathered with his brothers and sisters to sing old time tunes and hymns around the piano while the lighthouse flashed its rhythmic warning light through the home window. At the tender age of 4, he was singing sweetly enough to perform a Scottish love song at a church hall concert in Mullumbimby. These early years on the beautiful north coast influenced his musical taste and writing.

Smiley later settled in Sydney where an invitation to write a jingle for a charity sparked his interest in song writing. This interest was developed along with his singing and entertainment experience including several years singing with resident bush dance band HANDPICKED at Sydney’s lively Vinegar Hill Wool shed.

Smiley's new CHANGE album, captures the emotion of life with stories of change, contrasting the beautiful NSW coastal east with scenes from the big city. This folk/ contemporary collection was planned with producer Colin Watson and then recorded with a superb band of Aussie musicians including Colin (Guitar), Tim Wedde (Keyboards), Ian Lees (Bass) and Bradley Bergen (Drums). It will do your heart good.

About this track...

The familiar east coast spring display of a Jacaranda in full bloom provides a backdrop for reflection on the heartache of saying goodbye to someone you love. Set to a slow waltz this beautifully simple song cuts to the heart in a gentle way to express the emotion of loss.
