Martin Frawley - End Of The Bar     Pop, Rock 17/11/2018
Known to many as a principal member of Melbourne’s Twerps, Martin Frawley recently struck out on his own to record an album, Undone at 31, out 22nd February 2019
Listen to the album’s “End of the Bar” now, an early standout about mistakes and missteps in Frawley’s Australian pubs that’s equal parts Velvet Underground cool and outlaw country.

The Beasts - On My Back     Rock, Grunge 30/11/2018
Boris Sujdovic, Tex Perkins, Charlie Owen, Tony Pola, Kim Salmon celebrate their membership in the Beasts of Bourbon with a wittily observed statement of Beastlinesss entitled The Beasts Still Here.
‘On My Back’ on the one hand a bittersweet reflection about Tex Perkin’s terminally ill Beasts Of Bourbon bandmates Brian and Spencer - on the other a brutal, blistering ball-tearing bastard of a song from former Beasts of Bourbon Kim Salmon, Charlie Owen, Boris Sujdovic, Tony Pola and Tex reinventing themselves in a recorded project entitled The Beasts Still Here.

Martin Frawley - Chain Reaction     Rock, Pop 09/01/2019
Martin Frawley steps into the spotlight for Undone at 31, his first album as a solo artist and the start of a new chapter for the Melbourne songwriter.
To reinforce this new path forward and move away from the familiar, the Twerps co-founder employed fresh, imaginative approaches in the recording studio. That experimentation included a subtractive process of layering three drum takes as the foundation for the Jacques Dutronc-vibing track before pulling out pieces like a Jenga tower to arrive at the final result.

The Beasts - Pearls Before Swine     Rock, Grunge 16/01/2019
Boris Sujdovic, Tex Perkins, Charlie Owen, Tony Pola, Kim Salmon reinvent themselves from former Beasts Of Bourbon to The Beasts Still Here with a brand new recording of that name.
The Beasts latest offering from their soon to be released ‘Still Here’ album is a song about actually having been a Beast Of Bourbon. ‘Pearls Before Swine’ is a boozy slab worth of badass bravado diluted with a jug of irony and self effacement to make it easier to swallow, not that Beasts fans would have any trouble guzzling this!

Martin Frawley - Something About Me     Pop, Psychedelic 12/02/2019
Those familiar with Martin Frawley’s time as co-leader of Twerps will take comfort in hearing his deceptively simple songwriting is still intact on his solo debut Undone at 31.
The big reveal here is how new instrumentation and influences seamlessly expand Martin Frawley’s playground. Look no further than new single “Something About Me.” It might take several listens for one to realise Frawley is singing over just violin, Moog, and a Graceland-esque bassline.

The Beasts - At The Hospital     Rock 12/02/2019
Boris Sujdovic, Tex Perkins, Charlie Owen, Tony Pola, Kim Salmon celebrate their membership in the Beasts of Bourbon with a wittily observed statement of Beastlinesss entitled The Beasts Still Here.
At the hospital, so many class A drugs
At the hospital, they’re always killing bugs
At the hospital, they’re trying to save some lives
At the hospital, they’re sharpening their knives…
The black humour in these rhyming couplets would be at home on the Beasts of Bourbon’s debut The Axeman’s Jazz. This song perfectly closes Spencer P Jones’ incomparable career.

Lisa Caruso - A Holiday     Rock, Pop 27/02/2019
There’s an unlikeness to Sydney Artist Lisa Caruso that leaves a mark on avid listeners. With an utterly unique vocal, this charming songstress creates music that is un-fearfully pronounced.
Now accelerating at full speed with single number two, Lisa reveals a batty demeanour in ‘A Holiday’. Keeping a 90s garage attitude with elements of surf and 60s flair, expect to hear fuzzed out guitars, an unrelenting boisterous drum part, and layered vocals that entertain very forthright lyrics.

Second Prize - Waiting For A Spark     Rock, Pop 28/02/2019
Second Prize explore that queasy territory where “normal” male behaviour drifts over into toxic masculinity. Musically, the songs evoke Pulp, Grinderman-era Nick Cave, and Lambchop and Sparklehorse.
With an Everest-sized mellotron hook, Flaming Lips drums and a psychedelic freakout at the end, Waiting for a Spark takes the kitchen sink approach to a pop song. A riff on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, it sees the narrator picking over the embers of his ruined relationship, trying to figure out what he did that made it all go wrong.

Second Prize - Back To The Cul De Sacs     Rock, Pop 14/03/2019
Second Prize explore that queasy territory where “normal” male behaviour drifts over into toxic masculinity. Musically, the songs evoke Pulp, Grinderman-era Nick Cave, and Lambchop and Sparklehorse.
All great pop songs are about one of two things: class or sex. This one is about both. It’s one of those epic build songs that starts small and just keeps getting bigger, purloining Stones riffs, synth-pop arpeggios and a middle eight that pulls the rug right out from beneath you alongside lyrics that would make Jarvis Cocker wince.

The Aints! - Goodnight Ladies (I Hear A Sound Without)     Rock, Pop, Punk 11/04/2019
Formed in 2017 by Ed Kuepper The Aints! original brief was to recreate the sound and energy of The Saints as heard across their first three groundbreaking albums.
Goodnight Ladies, with it’s glam-stomp and bubblegum-brass, is the oldest track Ed Kuepper has ever committed to disc, it's origins acting back to 1969 when Ed was still a schoolboy in Brisbane, continuing it’s development up to 1973 with the earliest incarnation of The Saints, finally reaching completion in 2017 via The Aints! and eventual release via the 5-6-7-8-9 mini-LP.

Man Vs Synth - Perfect Picture     Electronic, Ambience, Atmospheric, Rock 10/05/2019
Combining cavernous synthesiser tones with piercing guitar refrains, Man vs Synth place a core emphasis on rhythm in their venture to spawn a seldom-explored, genre-defying genus of synth pop.
Perfect Picture draws influence from 80s synth pop, fusing analogue and acoustic sounds (like much of the EP) to produce a contemplative and ethereal piece. It acknowledges the feelings of loss and a future that could have been as the song centres around the sudden departure of a loved one due to inevitable circumstances.

The Clouds - Check Us Out     Rock, Pop 10/05/2019
Elemental dream rockers The Clouds hit the alternative scene in the early 90s, and continue their musical odyssey in the 2010s, delivering assured and magical songs to delight and inspire.
The Clouds strike again with their latest release, Check Us Out. Underpinned by Raph Whittingham’s rock-solid beat, and layered with driving power chords, it’s an emphatic attention-grabber. Jodi Phillis and Trish Young weave their symbiotic voices around lyrics celebrating self-belief, determination and perseverance. Dave Easton’s outro shredding puts the final seal on what will surely be an instant classic.

The Aints! - Laughing Clowns     Rock, Punk, Pop, Garage 15/05/2019
Formed in 2017 by Ed Kuepper The Aints! original brief was to recreate the sound and energy of The Saints as heard across their first three groundbreaking albums.
When The Saints finished Prehistoric Sounds I thought ''The Laughing Clowns'' could make a strong new single. The band split before this eventuated but I did end up using the song as the starting point for my next band Laughing Clowns. The Aints! version is a bit closer to the original idea though unique as well.

My Elephant Ride - Diamond Eyes     Pop, Atmospheric, Rock, Psychedelic 16/05/2019
My Elephant Ride make cosmic and soulful indie pop exploring love, gender, sexuality, faith and what lies on the other side.

Man Vs Synth - Fall Apart     Rock, Electronic, Atmospheric, Ambience 04/06/2019
Combining cavernous synthesiser tones with piercing guitar refrains, Man vs Synth place a core emphasis on rhythm in their venture to spawn a seldom-explored, genre-defying genus of synth pop.
Fall Apart is a hard hitting angular Indie Synth Rock track that isn’t afraid to be a little vulnerable at times. From the syncopated verse to the blaring chorus Fall Apart describes the inner thoughts of a man who has lost all hope.

My Elephant Ride - Other Side     Pop 04/06/2019
My Elephant Ride make cosmic and soulful indie pop. They return with the second taste off forthcoming sophomore album 'Beyond the Skin' releasing on the 21st of June.
Does free will exist?? The band have thought about this question a lot. Still no answer, perhaps they’ll figure it out in another song.

Mannequin Death Squad - San Fran     Rock, Punk, Grunge, Garage 05/06/2019
Melbourne punk rock duo Mannequin Death Squad create a huge sound that brings to mind panoramic rock sounds bursting out of a claustrophobic, tight space – the impact is volcanic!
Produced by Mark Opitz, San Fran is a perfect antidote for our times – it's a vicious punk rock attack on mindless consumerism, self-wealth obsession and denial of social responsibility. San Fran is an evolved example of the powerful punk rock sound that brings to mind panoramic rock sounds bursting out of a claustrophobic, tight space – the impact's volcanic!

Scientists - Braindead     Rock, Grunge, Garage, Pop 19/06/2019
They pioneered Grunge in the early 80s before disbanding in 87. With a successful European and 2 sold out US tours within the last year. The Scientists are back.
‘Braindead’ had its genesis on the Scientists 1985 UK support tour with Souxsie and the Banshees. It first appeared on record in deconstructed form on 1987s Scientists album ‘Human Jukebox’. With its 2 chord riff and pop hook vocals it is classic Scientists formula.

Scientists - Hey Sydney     Rock, Grunge, Garage, Pop 19/06/2019
They pioneered Grunge in the early 80s before disbanding in 87. With a successful European and 2 sold out US tours within the last year. The Scientists are back.
With its Syd Barrett like lyrics, its John Lydon like vocal delivery and the repetition of its title as the main motif, ‘Hey Sidney’ could be equally about Syd Barrett, Sid Vicious or the beloved City from whence the Scientists began their ascent to title holders ‘the Godfathers of Grunge’. Constantly changing key it breaks yet retains the Scientific formula.

Hard-Ons - Harder And Harder     Pop, Rock, Punk 05/07/2019
The Hard-Ons are back with their rampaging 12th studio album “So I Could Have Them Destroyed” which is released on Friday 11th October via Music Farmers.
The new Hard-ons’ single “Harder and harder” perhaps represents their most popular and revered musical face – that of power-pop with emphasis on power AND pop in equal measure. The famous Hard-ons’ gift for grafting face-peeling musical ferocity onto lush and unforgettable melody is in plain evidence here. It comes complete with the greatest fist-in-the-air middle eight of all time.
