The songs on Wheels & Steel collectively highlight Paul’s growing maturity as a songwriter. They also show he’s not afraid to address some of the serious issues facing the world today. Big End Of Town, for instance, is about inequalities in power and was inspired by the recent election campaign advertising. Buying Back The Farm is a triumphant tale of a young farmer battling the banks, and Shine is a shimmering song in praise of Mission Australia, for which Paul is a goodwill ambassador. At heart Wheels & Steel is about rite of passage. It is the accomplished work of an artist at last comfortable in his own skin and his career.
