Tasmania coats an undercurrent of restless, anxious dread in a sheen of light, apathetic content -both real and parody -rather than wallowing in self-pity, encouraging us to celebrate the fruits of our planet, frolic in the ocean, kick up the dust, roll in the grass and enjoy the feeling of being in love -while we still can.
Musically, Tasmania shimmers with the kind of elegant majesty worthy of an environment as holy as its namesake, lushly produced as the band venture further into electronic textures employing an ecosystem of drum machines, synthesisers, vocoder and fx to deliver songs that are some of their most radiant.
While Tasmania groans with the reluctant acceptance of defeat, teetering on the edge of apathy with the pong of shame of being Australian, being human, Pond’s expression of love for their environment is so strong it’s clear there’s plenty of fight left in this old dog yet
