Orca! Straight Ahead! - Meant To Be

Orca! Straight Ahead! - Meant To Be
Orca! Straight Ahead! is a quirky pop duo from Sydney made up of John Oddy - Guitars/Talkbox/Vocoder and Dane Frankcom - Drums/Percussion. We find it hard to describe ourselves because we don't know any other band that do what we do.

Basically we are the result of two people who can't sing, don't like anybody else enough to include them as members of the band and like far too much music to believe in such a thing as a bad song. To exist with these drawbacks, we use vocoders and talkboxes for the vocals and a loopstation and a plethora of pedals to play the songs live so we don't need any other band members. What results is the signature sound of Orca! Straight Ahead!

Nothing highlights this sound more than our debut EP You Can't Say We Didn't Try. Recorded and mixed by Chris Vallejo (The Presets, Empire of the Sun, Lions at Your Door, Sneaky Sound System) at Linear Recording Studios in early 2010, the release is the bands proudest achievement to date. If you haven't heard it already, we hope you enjoy all or atleast some of it.

About this track...

The most unique song on the EP. Beginning with a slow cooking groove and ending with a supernova bang. Numerous polyrhythms and time signature changes, layer upon layer of guitars, huge ethereal sounding vocals heavily drenched in reverb. If robots fell in love in space this would be the soundtrack.
