Neville was born in Mt. Isa and grew up on cattle stations in the Northern Territory. At twelve, Neville had his first guitar and was composing his own material. He continued to compose, perform and record throughout his career. Coming back to his rural roots, he now owns a share in Henbury Station in the N.T.
The inspirations for his music include Slim Dusty, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. These influences are evident in Neville’s finely crafted lyrics. Neville’s Bush Ballads are right at home among Australian Country while his other ballads sit comfortably within the American tradition.
Neville’s song writing rules are twofold: keep it simple but say it differently and leave room for the listener to be part of the story.
