After spending time playing in bands around Melbourne for the last two decades, including guitar in Sub Pop signed Deaf Wish and most recently bass in NIGHTCLUB, Sarah Hardiman’s departure from guitar to minimalist synth pop was inspired partly by necessity after moving in Geelong. Hardiman sent these songs to her friend Mikey Young who loved them so much he offered to help out. This turned into a three-year long collaboration, with Hardiman completing bedroom demos and Young contributing guitar, bass, percussion, beats and synthesizers, before eventually mixing and mastering the debut.
Moon Rituals’ debut is 8 intimate bedroom tracks with simple structures, sometimes even with one linear riff. Familiar melodies promote the drama of the 80s, the honesty of first times, with cinematic lyrics that survey a landscape of totemic moons, dance floor lights and dancing at the wrong end of the night.
