Both sweet and volatile like the ketone compound namesake of Jake Webb’s formless expanding musical alter ego, the song was recorded shortly after inception in the regional southwest over a 24 hour period in the doorless room of an old shopfront in Fremantle that he was living in at the time.
In his words “the guitar hook just seemed to fit the song and my housemate at the time remarked how that was what he had also been hearing in his head. It was very, very hot in that house.”
Developing his ambient and textural guitar sound playing with the likes of Sugarpuss & Rabbit Island.
Jake Webb established Methyl Ethel in 2013 as an outlet for his adventures in reverb soaked home recording.
Built from the ground up in various bedrooms, friends’ studios and quiet caverns, the exceptional EP diptych "Guts" and Teeth" released in quick succession and explore themes of anxiety, disillusionment and stasis.
The intricate tapestries of melody, dripping with lush eccentricity, ascended through the ether of the blogoshpere and airwaves.
