Lonely Stretch is a departure from the psych-fuzz-drone of The Dunes and provides a platform for Reiner to present his song writing and distinctive vocal style. The emphasis of the band is on simple song structures that echo a number of Australian underground acts including Ed Kuepper, The Triffids, The Go-Betweens, The Church and Chad’s Tree. With these influences in place, it is no coincidence that the name of the band is derived from The Triffids’ song entitled ‘Lonely Stretch’ from their 1986 album Born Sandy Devotional.
The debut album by Lonely Stretch is entitled 'Bedouin of the Fitzroy Evening'.
The album showcases the songs and distinctive vocals of Reiner while also including four separate duets with female vocalists including Romana Ashton (The Sunday Reeds), Kate Kowald (ex-Sons of Zoku), Emma Frichot (The Holy Sea) and Kiah Lanagan (Dean Forever).
