In 2012, during a particularly prolific period that saw him supporting Rowland S. Howard, Boredoms and My Disco with KES (splintering off to support Bonnie Prince Billy solo) Lehmann released four albums, Split, Little Milk, Girlfriends and Roomination, and contributed to friend’s records (Prudence Rees-Lee, KES, Hula Hope, The Zingers, The Ocean Party, Totally Mild and Great Outdoors).
Suddenly, fixated on mortality and fascinated by the repetition of the body over human history, Lehmann then tried his hand at folk-rock, inspired by Neil Young’s After The Gold Rush. A simple and direct suite of songs became a thoughtfully orchestrated, beautifully crafted work, recorded over a weekend on a friend’s farm - Lehmann’s fully realised Thank God For My Body presents the level of musicianship necessary for carrying its lyrical weight with tenderness and strength.
