Depending on the way I get inspiration for each song depends on whether I start with melody or lyrics. Sometimes I’ll just be playing around with chords and start humming along and then I’ll begin to piece together a song that way, but other times I’ll start writing lyrics before I can apply them to a melody or chords.
Both ways have worked for me in the past however majority of the time they tend to come together at the same time, and I find both lyrics and melody equally as important to a song.
If I had to choose a genre that my music fit in it would swing towards folk/country but also with a pop twist, but I don’t necessarily write music for a specific genre I just write because I enjoy writing songs and then performing them.
