Jairay - Crash Land

Jairay - Crash Land
When he was 14 Jairay was playing in his first punk band. He walked into Skinny’s Music, his favourite record store in Brisbane and they were playing a record by an artist named Billy Bragg. He’d never heard of him before and it immediately caught his attention. He used the $28 he'd saved up from slicing bread for month after school at the local bakery and his $2 for the bus home and bought it for $29.95. It was everything he loved about music - he wasn’t a great singer and was pretty average on guitar but his songs made him feel something. As he walked home (he'd used his bus money on the album) he decided to learn how to write songs like this.

"I’ll never forget this day as I was asked by three junkies for some change and I gave them my remaining 5 cents and then they proceeded to follow me, rough me up and try to throw me over the side of the bridge and steal my bag. I think the fact they didn’t steal my bag with my new Billy Bragg record in it made me appreciate the album all that much more."

About this track...

Written after a stranger literally died in his arms, 'Crash Land' is about just deciding to let go of the life Jairay was living, grow his hair, quit his job and just drive away and be someone new and someone he liked a lot more.
