Amrap's AirIt | Australian Music Radio Airplay Project :: Folk :: Inga Liljestrom - Warfaring Ways

Inga Liljestrom - Warfaring Ways

Inga Liljestrom - Warfaring Ways
After a year topping the independent Australian charts, Sydneysider Inga Liljeström had amassed a swag of shimmering reviews, an amazingly loyal fan base & comparisons to everyone from Bjork to Marianne Faithful for her second solo album ELK (2005). Radio, press, live reviewers and punters alike, gushed
over the lush string arrangements, dense cinematic productions, spellbinding lyrics &
magical performances. Elk’s first two singles Phoenix & All Of This were added on
many stations including Triple J (for whom she recorded a Live At The Wireless set) and numerous Album Of The Week accolades jostled for prominence in an ever-growing index of praise.

What followed were a string of sell-out shows, including a headlining Sydney Opera House performance and numerous festival appearances here and overseas. Then came invitations to collaborate with UK dance group Kosheen, Grammy-nominated producer Carmen Rizzo (Seal, kd lang, Oakenfold) Nouvelle Vague, The Church and Gotye (including a remix for Gotye's ARIA-winning Mixed Blood CD). More recently came 3rd LP Black Crow Jane, while Inga's song Bloodstain was chosen to promote TV series Dracula. It's head writer Daniel Knauf (creator of HBO’s Carnivále) prompted a fresh recording of it which features on the new album, Two Dangers.

About this track...

Banjo and mandolin are the main instruments here as Inga sings "I surrender with a white flag". Recorded in Australia's Blue Mountains between weatherboard walls, you can almost hear crackling twigs underfoot, smell distant fires, sense the encompassing fog and feel the "rib cage full of sparrows".
