Hugh Crosthwaite - Moonah and Whirlpool - Internet Download
Hugh is a composer, orchestrator and producer. In 2004 he completed a Bachelor of Music at The University of Melbourne, majoring in composition. He currently studies with renown composer and music journalist, Andrew Ford. Hugh is inspired by a wide variety of different music but his classical compositions are particularly influenced by the classical music of the late 19th and the early 20th century.

In recent years Hugh has enjoyed the opportunity to write commissions for Sarah Curro, Brian Walters, Syzygy, Plexus, the Asian Australian Orchestra, the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Choir, Concordis, and the Melbourne Lawyers Orchestra. In 2016 Stefan Cassomenos premiered Mountain Ash – Hugh’s first piano concerto – to wide acclaim. In 2018 Hugh was awarded a grant from Creative Partnerships Australia to write and produce the premiere of Cassandra, a long-form work for violin and piano.

In addition to his concert music, Hugh has scored music for films that have screened at Melbourne International Film Festival, Busan Film Festival and in 2012 Hugh scored the film that won the prestigious Tropfest film competition.

About this track...

Moonah and Whirlpool is a tone poem inspired by the poem Argonauta Nodosa by Brian Walters. The work tells a story of forbidden love between two creatures of a different type, and the triumph of their love over adversity.
