Gawurra - Mulunda [Kingfisher]

Gawurra - Mulunda [Kingfisher]
Gawurra [pronounced gow-rra] is an extraordinary singer and engaging performer hailing from East Arnhem Land. A contemporary of Gurrumul, he has a deeply resonant voice and musical sensitivity. Debut single Ratja Yaliyali won the 2015 NT Song of the Year Award in the Pop category.

Born on Gove Peninsula he spent time as a child on his grandmother’s land of Yathalamara, and now lives on Milingimbi Island. His culture, songlines, stories & history are deeply embedded in his resonant voice & soulful blend of traditional & contemporary songs.

Gawurra is a gentle and genuine young leader. He is an Elder in his community; the Old people gave him this knowledge and power. Passionate about keeping his Gupapungu language strong Gawurra is dedicated to sharing his music and culture with the world. His debut album has received numerous positive reviews from quality media such as SMH, The Age and a 4.5 out of 5 star review in Rolling Stone June issue. He will premiere his concert performance at the Walking with Spirits Festival in NT on Saturday July 23rd.
