She became immersed in the vibrant Brixton reggae scene, meeting interesting and creative artists from many different countries. This unique cultural melting pot inspired exploration of her own cultural roots and artistic expression.
Freedom returned to Australia with a new awareness and sense of purpose, and headed to Darwin.
Reggae music influenced her in writing about her spiritual journey and life experiences according to her own understanding. Contemporary Folk and songs about country, continues in her music also.
The name ‘Freedom’ was given to her by an Indigenous woman at the time she moved to Darwin and soon after, began formal studies in music at CDU Darwin leading to a Diploma in music technology, recording and performance. More recently, Freedom moved to the NSW Mid North Coast and began a new phase of recording.
Now the album is complete. Freedom returned to Darwin to the Old Kakadu Studios for the final mastering by Matt Cunliffe - one of her teachers from her Darwin Uni Diploma course. She says ‘It felt like a completion of a 10-year apprenticeship journey.’
