Five Mile Sniper - Gone

Five Mile Sniper - Gone
Combining singer/songwriter/producer John Baxter (Prettymess, Holocene & Alcotomic), Doug Robertson (Icecream Hands), Matt Balfe (Motor Ace), Geoff Barnes (P76) and Paul Inglis (Prettymess) Five Mile Sniper announce the forthcoming release of their debut album The Sound of Trees, set for early 2015.

Having recently become a father of twins and taking a 6 year break from writing and touring, raising children afforded John the time to contemplate the world we live in and inspired him to begin writing again. Getting back into the studio after many years was incredibly exciting and allowed John to collaborate with old friends Paul, Doug, Matt and Geoff who were also in fatherhood mode.

Recorded in Memphis, Tennessee and Melbourne, the album title The Sound Of Trees is analogous to suffering in silence. In a world facing big issues such as excessive population growth, diminishing global resources and the proliferation of corruption, greed and capitalism, The Sound Of Trees is a euphemism for the decaying natural world we've inherited that has no voice - a cry for help that cannot be heard. It conveys moments of optimism with an undertone of loss.

About this track...

Gone was recorded on a 1972 Teac mixing console at Mountain Sound Studio at Hanging Rock on a wintery evening. Built around the beautiful tones of a Wurlitzer 200A electric piano, FMS were able to encapsulate the melancholic sense of loss, including the sound of rain on the studio roof.
