First Sounds Volume One



The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia and First Nations Media Australia are thrilled to announce the 12 artists chosen for First Sounds Volume One, featuring new and emerging First Nations artists from around Australia.

In this innovative series of releases, the organisations have teamed up their Amrap and indigiTUBE initiatives to deliver more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to Australian radio.

Boox Kid is a First Nations Producer Singer Songwriter residing in Beeliar, Western Australia. He is part of the Wardandi Bibbulmun tribe of the South West of W.A. Boox Kid is a beat creator delivering Electro Pop with unheard melodies, harmonies, unique instrumentation and a stellar live show.

DOBBY is a rapper, drummer, speaker and music composer. Aged 25, He proudly identify as a Filipino and Aboriginal musician, whose family is from Brewarrina on Ngemba land, and a member of the Murrawarri Republic in Weilmoringle, NSW. My Mind is a dedication to Aboriginal struggle in a post-colonial way of living.

MissGenius is a Noongar and Maduwongga woman as well as a deadly hip hop MC. Featuring her signature deft flow, sharp lyrical danger and meticulous beat selection, I Don’t Wanna Be addresses the internal turmoil many feel around normative societal expectations.

MissGenius is adding her voice to those expressing body positive images and owning their own power.

The CBAA and First Nations Media Australia are thrilled to release First Sounds Volume One, featuring 12 new and emerging First Nations artists from around Australia.
Nathan May descends from the Arabana (SA) and Yawuru (WA) clans. He was born in Darwin and moved to Adelaide 8 years ago to study music at CASM, the Centre for Aboriginal Studies in Music, a part of the University of Adelaide Music conservatorium. This song creates awareness that mental health in our communities is a massive problem.
