Philadelphia Grand Jury and Klezmania - Sing For The Sun     World, Pop 01/11/2010
Klezmania are a band of Australian jews. Descendents of Ukrainian Jewish refugees. The Philly Jays are a prolific Australian garage rock and pop band.
One part four-on-the-flour garage rock and one part Yiddish klezma. The song was written by the Philly Jay’s Berkfinger and sung by members of Klezmania with wailing clarinets. Beneath seemingly carefree music is lyrical content unique to Jewish refugees from eastern Europe.

Sarah Blasko and Ajak Kwai - Nyiir Ienqarr     World, Pop 01/11/2010
This collaboration worked out better than our wildest dreams!
Ajak Kwai flew to Brighton, England to spend a week recording and writing with Sarah Blasko (who is now based in the UK). This track is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the album. Whitley plays some of the instruments on the track.

There are many languages in Afghanistan and this song is in Dari. Translated, its title means ‘I am not with you’ which is a lighthearted song from a woman playing the daira which is a large shallow drum like a tambourine.

When George Menegon came to Australia, he brought his love of French music with him. In particular, the musette style. This song is called "The Pleasure of the Forest" and although no one knows what it is originally about, it is most likely a love song.

This song is in the Swabian dialect of German. The tune was also sung by Elvis Presley with entirely different lyrics as the song "Wooden Heart" in 1960.

In its original form, this is a beautiful old song of an unavoidable journey, the promise of loyalty and true love.

Iraena, a beautiful model, disappeared from the small beach community of Piha in New Zealand in 2004. This song was specially crafted in loving memory of the tragic loss.

This song is a very old poem from Sudan about the rivers drying up and a long journey across the desert to find water for people and cattle alike. This story ends in tragedy; in Samson Garkouth's story, he managed to make it to Australia with hopes to start afresh.

A traditional Kenyan call and response song, performed by Blaise Mukendi and the Mixed Beans Multicultural Community Choir.

A young man is encouraging the community to respect the beautiful girl Apondi and not shun her disability. The chant is often used as a working song to work quickly.
