Elissa Goodrich is a composer, percussionist and sound artist working in multi-artform projects and contemporary, improvised music. A VCA graduate, Elissa’s sound-art works have featured internationally in Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Elissa has recorded & performed in various contemporary classical, jazz & pop groups and co-led the world-jazz Shannon-Goodrich Ensemble with pianist Clare Shannon including 2 nominations for 2009 Australian Jazz Work of the Year from their Worlds Within Worlds CD. Elissa also works in independent theatre, dance & audio-visual productions with long-term collaborators including theatre director Bagryana Popov, filmmaker Michael Carmody and with visual artist Gabby O’Connor. Elissa’s recent commissions include: State Library of Victoria Creative Fellowship (2009/10), commissioned composer for ABC RN production See How the Leaf People Run (producer Maryanne Lynch) (2012) and shortlisted for a soundart commission at Tate Modern (London) (2013). Elissa’s musical collaborators on Bach Conversations include the members of States of Play: acclaimed contemporary, jazz artists; Phil Bywater (saxophone), Tamara Murphy (double bass) and Daniel Farrugia (drums), and guest singer Ria Soemardjo who has established herself in Australia as a unique voice in world music, drawing on her training in the Javanese musical tradition.
