The Coldwater Band is fast becoming one of Far North Queensland’s most talked about emerging Indigenous acts.
The name Cold Water comes from their Grandparents land which is known as Shipton’s Flat. The band descends from the Kuku Nyungkul clan. The language name of their country is Bana Yaralji meaning Cold Water. As young boys, they came together playing drums on buckets and tin cans and playing guitars with missing strings.
As they got older, they expressed more interest in music by learning how to sing, drum and simple guitar chords. Inspired by other local bands Black Image and the Dalkan Band, the band honed their skills and formed in 2010.
