Big Merino’s debut album ‘Suburban Wildlife’ is a patchwork quilt of much loved musical influences - as if Glen Hansard joined The Rolling Stones and Curtis Mayfield on a street corner jam in New Orleans. Co-songwriters Alex Craig and Stuart Davis write socially and politically-charged songs that are sometimes gentle and nostalgic and at other times nothing less than a fierce cry for revolution.

Alex and Stuart have known each other since school, but only recently came together to write music. Stuart cut his teeth singing Gospel with Tony Backhouse in The Heavenly Light Quartet, and he brings that soulful feel to everything he does. He was instrumental in the formation of The Cafe of the Gate of Salvation as well as The Sydney Acappella Association.

Suburban Wildlife was recorded in Sydney at Damien Gerard’s in early 2018. They brought in a who’s who of local musos including: James Greening on horns, Johnny G on keyboards/accordion, Jonathon Zwartz on double bass, Jess Ciampa on congas/timbales, Michel Rose on pedal steel, Clare O’Meara on fiddle and The Sydney Chamber Orchestra.

About this track...

With an acoustic guitar intro that sounds so good, it’s as if the instrument is right there beside you, this epic song builds to a full production including strings, brass, keys and the bands 4-piece backbone.
