Bala G - Easy Street

Bala G - Easy Street
Guruguru (Daniel) Hick is a Wangurri clan group member from Dhalinybuy community in North East Arnhem Land, NT.
Guruguru aka Bala G works for the Dhimurru Aboriginal Corporation as a Land and Sea Country Ranger. He is the brother of Rebecca (Rarriwuy) Hick (actor and star of Redfern Now) and his mother is Janet Munyarryun, one of the founding members and dancers of Bangarra.

Guruguru stars in this year’s fantastic [definitely worth watching] ABC TV series '8MMM'. He has three children, two sons and a daughter [and no house!].

Easy Street is his first recording under the name of Bala G; it was produced by Stu Kellaway of Yothu Yindi at ARDS Yolngu Radio in Yirrkala.

Easy Street is a hip-hop track produced to communicate an important message regarding discrimination in the workplace. In particular addressing the issues around lack of Indigenous staff housing in communities, with staff housing being allocated to non local residents, leaving Indigenous employees in overcrowded and unsafe conditions. The NT Anti Discrimination Commission can assist with discrimination in the workplace.

This is Bala G’s first release, and considering it was done in less than a day, on a Sunday, it’s pretty damn good.

About this track...

A hip-hop track that raps about discrimination in the workplace, particularly issues around the lack of Indigenous staff housing in communities, with staff housing being allocated to non local residents, leaving Indigenous employees in overcrowded and unsafe conditions. The NT Anti Discrimination Commission can assist with discrimination in the workplace.
