Born in Tokyo, bred in Delhi, based in Melbourne. Singer-Songwriter-Producer Avijit ‘Avi’ Misra melds east and west, old and new into his own brand of independent music. Starting out as a solo acoustic act in India’s underground music scene more than a decade ago, Misra soon assembled his folk fusion band Avi And The Uprising. His debut album ‘Eyes On The Radio’ was released in 2014 to critical acclaim and the band hit the road for a 3 city tour partnered with MTV Indies. The self-made songman has since hit the Australian music scene with nationwide radio airplay and strong shows along the East Coast from The Espy to The Brisbane Powerhouse. Misra's credentials include having written for the BBC and sung opera at The Albert Hall. He launches his first electronic album 'Usha' in February with a three city Australian Tour and a radical Rajasthani gypsy electro rock sound. In an increasingly polarised world, Misra's work refuses to be stereotyped.
About this track...
A Rajasthani gypsy folk meets electro-rock anthem that comments on the state of the world as seen through the Indian folk concept of ‘Kalyug’ - an age that has taken what was once pure, pristine and good and corrupted it inside out. Powerful bluesy vocals/guitar on a driving electronic beat meets the hypnotic sounds of the kamaycha, Alghoza and Khartal.
