His music is heavily influenced by his local musical idols he saw growing up, such as Jamie Oehlers, Andrea Keller, Gian Slater, Sam Anning Luke Howard, Ben Winkelman and Barney Mcall. As well as influences external to Australia such as James Blake, Miguel Zenon, Booker Little and Nelson Riddle.
Rob’s music focuses on having contrasting sonic landscapes by writing with a ‘controlled weirdness’ that produces a distinctive sound to the compositions. His band is comprised of Bede Ford-Gaddes (trumpet), Callum Mintzis (trombone), Paul Kascamanidis (guitar), Robbie Finch (double bass, also may or may not be Aussie Rob) and Lewis Pierre Humbert (drums). The band produces a sound informed by modern jazz, experimental folk, chorales, alternative and experimental music.
