Singing and opera became something of an addiction for Michaele. She found the opera world to be strictly structured in terms of voice types. She learnt to deliver a particular sound in a certain range with a particular vibrato rate and a voice type assigned to specific roles and repertoire.
Aspera came together with a number of key collaborators. Michaele and Rachel were school friends who bonded while skipping maths lessons to jam together. The next piece of the puzzle came when Michaele acquired an alto harmonium. Playing this unique and very physical instrument is as close to breathing as a machine can achieve. The final piece of the puzzle was when Michaele meet Robin de Haas in LA.
The Aspera line up was completed with the addition of Gabrielle on viola and Giuseppe on guitar.
Michaele’s interest in Medieval music led to her discovery of the ancient texts of Camina Burana, Virgil and the little known Augustan female poet Sulpicia. The words and stories of these ancient writers have been an inspiration for Galatea.
