Pieced together from voice memos on her iPhone, multi-instrumentalist Annie Bass worked closely with fellow jazz graduate and good friend Matt Morrison in his Marrickville studio exploring electronic music in new ways. Finding refuge within the studio while working three jobs alongside an internship, Annie breathed many different lives into ‘Sweet Nothing’, but it wasn’t until teaming up with Sam Gil (Ara Koufax) that she felt they had cracked it. The track was polished in LA alongside Kito resulting in a song consumed by lush production lead by Annie’s hauntingly beautiful vocals.
Revealing another dimension of upcoming EP Control, ‘Sweet Nothing’ exposes dating in a world consumed by social media - fixated on presenting a well-curated and sometimes un-real version of ourselves and allowing insecurities to dictate the fate of a new relationship before giving it an honest chance. Questioning how long the charade can last, Annie confronts heartache and transcends pain into wisdom, a testament to determination and self-belief.
