The Oyster Murders - Ghosts In Our Wake

The Oyster Murders - Ghosts In Our Wake
The Oyster Murders from it’s inception have been an ambitious group, which has transposed into their music. Never feeling the necessity to play within their means; songs are given the freedom to expand and even transform overtime.

The newest episode of ambient pop goodness, Whatever became of Marie St. Clair?, was recorded in the idyllic surrounds of ARIA award winning producer, Magoo’s, Applewood studio. There is something about a renovated old church that just fits in with The Oyster Murders sound, that has nothing to do with organs, but maybe a little to do with ghosts and choirs.

Sounds from the album were inspired by a passion for unusual and analogue instruments, that arose from experimentation in the studio. This is sweet melancholy music with good pop-sensibilities.

The Oyster Murders consists of a few key members Grant Redgen who plays guitar and lead vocals and Shaun Edwards on drums. The band also enlists the talents of a rotating roster of musical collaborators. Collaborators currently in the live line-up are Daniel Wighton on guitar and keys, Wendy James providing harmonies and piano, and Adam Buchanan making some pretty intense and appealing sounds on whatever he gets his hands on.

About this track...

This track uses mellotron sounds from the 60's, including choirs and broken sounding cellos, to create a haunting yet melodic soundscape. The last two minutes in particular, really showcases the full repertoire of the band, with noise guitars, male and female harmonies, piano and ambient drones all coming together.
