STEVE grew up in Papua New Guinea with missionary parents. Unlike most kids being exposed to pop music and loving the latest fad, STEVE's initiation was with Gospel music. An experience so soulful that it didn't take him long to realise that there was nothing else he'd rather do.
"There's definitely a spiritual element to a lot of the songs... even if it just seems like they're about girls," he offers.
When you listen to his songs, you can hear there's something very personal going on. STEVE admits that he can't stand singing in the background, this could have something to do with his move from band member to singer/songwriter as such a young man.
He wrote and recorded his debut album, HOTEL CHELSEA largely on his own, using isolation as a theme to make sense of the album title. Artists the calibre of Bob Dylan, Jack Kerouac and Janis Joplin wrote some of their greatest work alone inside the infamous New York City hotel.
STEVE isn’t completely new to the music scene, having won the Q Song emerging artists award in 2008.
