Big Bad Echo - Battered Fish     Rock, Psychedelic, Punk 21/03/2017
Big Bad Echo are a 5 piece Post-Punk band based in Brisbane. With a diverse set influences the band have been compared to artists such as the Black Angels.
“Battered Fish” clocks in at just over six minutes, so you’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s overwrought. The truth of the matter though is that it somehow manages to exude urgency all the way through. Bold and unapologetically huge, “Battered Fish” is a stunning re-emergence for Big Bad Echo.

MUSIC CO-COORDINATOR PICK: Nick Rodwell, 4ZZZ, Brisbane (QLD)

Freda & Jackson - 20together     Electronic, House, Hip Hop, Jazz 21/03/2017
Freda & Jackson intertwine organic sound and human feel into predominantly electronic production methods - creating a unique sound that derives influences from Jazz, Hip-Hop amongst many other genres.
Building off a wordy vocal sample and mellow synth loop, the track’s climax combines sombre trumpet bursts with a vibrato-fuelled flute top line. The linear percussion fills that intersect its traditional house beat give this track its raw, low-slung gleam that elevates it above other efforts in the genre.

MUSIC DIRECTOR PICK: Amelia Jenner, FBi Radio, Sydney (NSW)

Other tracks by Freda & Jackson:  Sugar Pill  -  Sigh
Jackson Reid Briggs and The Heaters - When Are You Going To Give Up On Me     Rock, Garage, Punk 21/03/2017
Honest, straight forward, Australian rock.
A simple heavy hitting love song.

MUSIC CO-COORDINATOR PICK: Chris Cobcroft, 4ZZZ, Brisbane (QLD)

Spirit Bunny - Amen Skew     Pop, Experimental, Rock, Dance 21/03/2017
Sweet vocals and brittle circuit bent Casio keyboard melodies nestle between slabs of buzzing Commodore 64 synths, gritty beats and pulverising drums.
Spirit Bunny present their version of the 'Amen Break' beat, but deformed through their particular mix of circuit bent synths and smashed acoustic drums. Sweet vocals riff on consumer culture.

MUSIC CO-COORDINATOR PICK: Chris Cobcroft, 4ZZZ, Brisbane (QLD)

Other tracks by Spirit Bunny:  Marshmallows  -  Disco Horseride Montage
Ainsley Farrell - Lady Long Hair     Folk, Roots, Chill, Acoustic 17/03/2017
Folk singer-songwriter with a hint of dark, indie rock vibe.
Lady Long Hair is about a creepy, mysterious lady from Ainsley's dreams. Lady Long Hair is a dark figure, who seems like she has something to hide. In her dreams, Ainsley is following and trying to uncover her mysterious ways.

Neighbourhood Void - All Strung Out     Rock, Punk, Garage 17/03/2017
Neighbourhood Void are an emerging Sydney band bringing their own style of 'Gutter Rock' featuring brutally honest lyrics and punchy instrumentals.
This songs about getting intoxicated and having mixed emotions about how you should feel. All Strung outs lyrics talk about the feeling, memories and emotions that being severely intoxicated can bring up. (Strung out = physically weak as from long-term drug addiction, Totally high from drug use).

MUSIC DIRECTOR PICK: Amelia Jenner, FBi Radio, Sydney (NSW)

Other tracks by Neighbourhood Void:  Chemical Imbalance  -  Don't Know Where To Go (Again)
Oslow - Cold Dark Space     Rock, Punk 17/03/2017
Off the back of countless tours and the success of Days Are So Bright Now and No Longer Concerns Me 7”, the debut self-titled album from Oslow is out now.
Rinsed in ‘00s nostalgia, the atmospheric lead single ‘Cold Dark Space’ is four minutes of moody, layered melody lines and heartfelt lyrics reminiscent of iconic crossover bands including Brand New and Title Fight.

The Spring Peaks - Supermarket     Pop, Rock, Garage 17/03/2017
The Spring Peaks are a five-piece indie-pop outfit from Perth, formed in late 2016 in a carport in Fremantle. We like to keep things simple and bright!
Supermarket is a typical story of "boy meets girl", it was written in the quiet spaces of front man Jake Ostle's house, before bringing it to life as a band. Supermarket is a sunny, joyful and down to earth Indie pop track with a vintage "beachy edge" to it.

MUSIC DIRECTOR PICK: Will Backler, RTRFM, Perth (WA)

GAUCI - Hurry     Electronic, Pop 15/03/2017
Like Neapolitan ice-cream but more punk.Like Abba, but better.
New wave Italo Disco.
Waking up from a nightmare, you need someone by your side.

MUSIC DIRECTOR PICK: Amelia Jenner, FBi Radio, Sydney (NSW)

Ptwiggs - Hypno Game     Electronic, Breaks, Trance, Experimental 14/03/2017
Ptwiggs is a Sydney-based producer and sound engineer. She blurs the line between despair and ecstasy in her unorthodox industrial club constructions.
"Hypno Game" twists a trance-like supersaw melody around tuff drum breaks & percussive hits resulting in an irresistible & terrifying momentum. It evokes nostalgia of the 90’s taking from trance and jungle roots, mutating these influences into something apocalyptic and chaotic that evokes contemporary internet culture.

MUSIC DIRECTOR PICK: Amelia Jenner, FBi Radio, Sydney (NSW)

Red Red Krovvy - Holiday     Metal/Punk, Punk, Garage, Rock 07/03/2017
Raw and primal, female fronted, punk-thud. Red Red Krovvy sums up living in Australia in 2017- the daily struggle, of the mediocrity, anxiety, exhaustion and uncertainty.
The 9-5 has got you down. The big trip is coming up. It keeps you going. The beaches! The cocktails! What a getaway.
The 9-5 gets you down again. Book another trip.

Saskwatch - December Nights     Rock, Soul, Pop 04/03/2017
6-piece indie/soul group from Melbourne.
Melbourne indie outfit Saskwatch today give you the first single “December Nights” off their to-be-released fourth studio record. Taking their classic soul sound in a new direction, Saskwatch have downsized in members but not in soundscape, utilising the space left behind for a whole new style and swagger.

MUSIC CO-COORDINATOR PICK: Chris Cobcroft, 4ZZZ, Brisbane (QLD)

Simi Lacroix - Runnin     Pop, Retro 04/03/2017
Simi Lacroix is a one-man 80’s rip-off musical act from Brisbane, Australia.
A bristling, bouncy tune which brings to mind Eddie Van Halen jamming with Hall and Oates, “Runnin” sees Simi Lacroix placed at the apex of a love triangle (or is it a square?) playing his questionable love interests against each other in a vulgar display of weakness.

MUSIC CO-COORDINATOR PICK: Nick Rodwell, 4ZZZ, Brisbane (QLD)

Sugar Fed Leopards - Shut Up (Show Me With Your Shoes)     Pop, Dance 01/03/2017
This blazing sextet mix doo wop, soul and rock n'roll with disco to make sweetly dangerous song and dance, and their live act is a wild candy coloured hot rush.
Shut Up, is a steady groove track, slow enough for warming up and getting serious about dancing. The smooth bass line relaxes the listener and laid back rhythm offers many opportunities to show how you can move your feet. There are great bv's and a good saxophone solo too.

MUSIC DIRECTOR PICK: Zara Kravchenko , SYN, Melbourne (VIC)

Batpiss - Weatherboard Man     Rock, Garage, Punk 25/02/2017
Melbourne dirge-rock champions BATPISS are shoving the social and political dimensions back into Australian rock music with confronting new song ‘Weatherboard Man’. They’ll be testing it out on the road soon.
'Weatherboard Man’ is one intense and powerful song. It sees the trio channel a new and arresting style that owes a significant debt to the intensity of fellow bastions of Australian grot-rock. Produced and mixed by Gareth Liddiard of The Drones, within you'll find grit, regret and ire, a vital, unhinged guitar-driven narrative...

MUSIC DIRECTOR PICK: Cameron Dunsford, PBS 106.7FM, Melbourne (VIC)

Moonbase (FKA Moonbase Commander) rises from the depths of Sydney’s underground bass scene to deliver his massive collaboration ‘It Don’t Matter,’ featuring superstar emcee and Grammy-nominated artist, Anderson .Paak.
The addictively dark It Don’t Matter was made between Sydney and Los Angeles, and Nick Luke (aka Moonbase) says it’s a collaboration that came easy despite the different worlds they come from.

MUSIC DIRECTOR PICK: Amelia Jenner, FBi Radio, Sydney (NSW)

Endgrain - 4 x 4     Electronic, Dance 22/02/2017
Sydney producer/DJ Endgrain's output varies from laid-back, dusty summer slow jams through to heart-racing, high impact club music and almost everything in between.
'4 x 4' is the first taste from Endgrain's forthcoming EP - a rolling, hypnotic arrangement of percussion, compelling bass and addictive sampling combining to form a high-energy house cut made for dance floors. Its simple, club-inspired instrumentation, intuitive pacing and sub-rattling low end is guaranteed to make crowds move.
