Mitchell Callaway was plucked from obscurity and propelled into the homes of millions around Australia thanks to “The X-Factor” in 2011. To this day people are still talking about the 26 year old’s audition where The X-Factor judges - who are also renowned international artists in their own right - loved the humble concreter from country New South Wales.
Natalie Bassingthwaite stated, “this country is going to go wild for you”. And wild they did. Callaway reached the Top 6 in the contest, was dubbed one of the villains of Australian television following a well publicized on air spat with judge, Guy Sebastian and finished the series with a loyal fan base.
Mitchell Callaway has truly lived every moment of his 26 years which have included brushes with the law and a near death experience that made him reassess the direction he was heading. In July 2010 during a game of rugby league tackle he broke his neck in three places. “The fractures were a millimetre and a half from my spinal cord. If it had moved any further, I would have been paralysed from the neck down or dead”, says Callaway. “It made me wake up to myself."
