As leader one of Australia's most critically acclaimed rock bands, Bluebottle Kiss, Jamie Hutchings has written and released over 140 songs, toured relentlessly in Australia, the US and Europe and played alongside artists as diverse as Cat Power, Ed Kuepper, Interpol and Dinosaur Jr.
Starting in the mid 90's Hutchings' work with Bluebottle Kiss mixed noise rock with Hutchings' narrative driven writing. Since his second solo album in '09, his main priority has been his solo work which has seen him continue to push his own creative boundaries utilising everything from choral vocal arrangements to junkyard percussion.
His latest offering, Avalon Cassettes (Laughing Outlaw 2011), was recorded live to an 8 track cassette recorder in a shack at the beachside suburb of Avalon in Northern Sydney. It creates a heavy/mellow reverie full of surreal narratives and evocative raw soundscapes coupled with intelligent lyricism and Hutchings' signature vocals and innovative arrangements. Touted by DB Magazine as "…one of the greatest songwriters of any generation..." Mess and Noise magazine cites Hutchings has "…an air of authority and purpose, a sense of space that is quintessentially his…" Avalon Cassettes further asserts Hutchings as one of Australia's most unique and underrated songwriters.

About this track...
With it's incessant marching snare beat "Slack Magic" picks up the pace of "Avalon Cassettes". A minor car accident begins a downward spiral matched by Hutchings frenetic steel string strumming as the two characters chase each other like phantoms through the back streets of inner city Sydney.
