Based in Hobart, the band formed in 2008, releasing an independent hand-made EP titled ‘Flicker On’. The last six months has seen Ivy St. play shows with bands like; My Disco, The Stabs, Fabulous Diamonds, Children Collide, East Brunswick All Girls Choir, The Grates and many more.
Their latest offering ‘Picture Machine’ is an album that is heavily rooted in Hobart's isolated scene and musically is influenced by some of the prominent 90's Hobart post-punk bands like The Frustrations, Sea Scouts, and most recently The Bad Luck Charms. The album was written in a colonial DIY practice space called ‘The Rat Palace’, part of an old church in Hobart’s CBD. Lyrically it deals with small towns, creative frustrations, data entry jobs, fictitious scenes, bits of rambling poetry and other pretentious metaphors.
Picture Machine is out now through Wireless Records via MGM Distribution (AUS) / Southbound (NZ).
