Buchanan is the coming together of the unabashed melodies of Josh Simons (vocals, keys), the sweeping instrumentation of Luke Shields (guitar), the driving bass of Miles de Carteret and intricate rhythms of Dan Barwick.
The Melbournians burst into the public focus in 2011 with a rare 5-star review from triple j music director Richard Kingsmill, high rotation airplay of single ‘Teachers’ and an opening slot at the famed Laneway Festival—all within 6 months. Buchanan’s dynamic debut EP, NO PHOTO, soon followed. Weaving classic pop melodies with progressive rock arrangements, Beat Magazine earmarked Buchanan as “one of the fastest rising bands in Australia.”
The group was soon after played their first live show to an intimate audience. Buchanan then played a string of supports with the likes of Kimbra, Gypsy & The Cat and Tim & Jean, before opening the 2011 Laneway Festival.
The band are currently busy recording their first studio album, and have quietly released to the internet new single ‘Run Faster’ as a hype track and reminder of the powerful sound that this quartet have to offer.
