Bedroom Suck

Sort by: Date Artist
Dag - Guards Down     Rock 02/02/2017
Dag play songs about the country, the city, and trying to find yourself somewhere in between. Surrounded by isolation, and the company of strangers or the solitude of the bush.
'Guards Down' rides on the backs of 80's Australian indie bands with gently shivering violins and charming back-and-forth vocals. There's a suburban poeticism to the whole thing.

Scott & Charlene's Wedding - Don't Bother Me     Rock, Pop 17/08/2016
Classic Melbourne slacker-pop stars Scott & Charlene's Wedding are back with their third full-length record. Absolute pop perfection which summarises middle of the road Australian existence.
Scott & Charlene's Wedding have long perfected the knacker of producing indie pop hymns almost on a whim. New single 'Don't Bother Me' is chock full of singalong moments, superimposed by a mundane lyrical humour that turns Craig Dermody's deadpan delivery into something inspiring.

MUSIC DIRECTOR PICK: Stephen Goodhew, FBi Radio, Sydney (NSW)

Superstar - The Long Frond     Electronic, Atmospheric 03/06/2015
Melbourne duo, Superstar have been distilling their sound for almost a decade, refining their approach to music and critiquing their processes the way they would a fine wine.
"The Long Frond" is the second single from Superstar's sophomore LP, 'Table for Two'. Met with a myriad of acclaim The Long Frond is a "slow burning spacious beast of a song that signals exciting things to come."

Other tracks by Superstar:  Folding Gold  -  Slice of Paradise
Primitive Motion - Golden Light Clinic     Pop, Electronic, Psychedelic, Downbeat 09/04/2015
Primitive Motion's second album is a cosmic meandering of dream-float-pop, employing feather-light vocals, and electronic instrumentation that has the innocence of a child's drawing stuck to a refrigerator door.
Lead single off their second LP, "Golden Light Clinic" cunningly blends multiple layers of warm keyboards, forming a density that conversely adheres to the duo's harmonic clarity. The instrumentation sits gently upon a leaf of lush vocals, soothingly floating down to Earth, via the gravitational pull of the playful drum-machine.

Love Of Diagrams - Double Negative     Rock, Garage, Pop 26/02/2015
Since their 2003 debut, LOD have never stopped working. Now they return with their 4th LP, which continues the group's trademark raw sonic onslaught, with twists of beauty and groove.
The lead single from the forthcoming LP 'Blast' reassures that Love Of Diagrams have certainly not lost their energetic edge. The nervous sparkle behind the beat sees the listener's world thrown into fast forward, whilst beautiful backing vocals will reassure that we keep grounded in the echoes of shoegaze.

Per Purpose - Kerbside Collection     Rock, Punk, Grunge 03/09/2014
A sprawling mass of warbled trebly guitars & wound up rhythm, crowned with huff and puff gusto. Achieving pop perfection while pulling everything apart and shoving nails in the cracks.
A frantic, glorious mess, eclipsing little more than 4 minutes in length before completely self-destructing. Like a rude awakening from a dream, in which one's faint recollection questions it's existence in the first place.

Scott & Charlene's Wedding - Jackie Boy     Rock, Garage, Punk, Pop 30/08/2014
The impeccably named 4 piece are back with not so much a brand new album, as a generation’s glimpse of love, home-sickness, basketball, alienation, and all things that matter.
An up-beat, air-tight composition that juxtaposes beautifully against front-man Dermondy's lyrical fragility. The singer's humorous and poignant everyday life is delivered with his heart on his sleeve, as with 'Jackie Boy', we find him up against the harsh New York City grind.

Bitch Prefect - Better Next Time     Rock, Pop, Punk, Folk 14/08/2014
With one hand in the Flying Nun bucket, and the other in that late 90′s Chapter Music sound, Prefect have concocted their their own brand of modern slacker-pop.
Adelaide fits accurately within the colourfully named new sub-genre of 'dole-wave'. Echoing the ethos of NZ's Flying Nun label from the 1980s, Bitch Prefect deliver slow, well-composed pop harmonies, that reflect on punk (if only they had the energy).

Peak Twins - So Long     Pop, Rock 14/08/2014
Peak Twins don't have two lead singers –they're fronted by a lone, powerful voice, supported by choir-strength backing, swimming in a sea of angelic guitars and flat-foot drumming.
The lead single from the debut LP, providing a stable anchor point of sonic and lyrical influences. Suave clicking, a saxophone solo, and beautiful backing harmonies allow the listener to transcend to a familiar, yet mysterious world, surrounded by Sycamore Trees in the north-west corner of the States.

Fair Maiden - India     Rock, Folk, Psychedelic 11/08/2014
The versatile voice of Carey shines as the focal point of Fair Maiden, portraying either sweet and obliging 60’s pop laments, or doused with the unearthly majesty of haunted folk.
Echoes of subversive 60's pop are identifiable within Fair Maiden's lead single from their debut LP. As the title indicates, there is a certain Eastern charm, where Ellen Carey's versatile voice allows the listener to transcend boundaries of time and space, inducing a mantra-like state of purity and beauty.

Martyr Privates - Something To Sell     Rock, Psychedelic, Garage 31/07/2014
Martyr Privates show us why we fell in love with rock n roll, approaching it with care and an interest in creating a beautiful and dense sonic assault.
For a band comprised of only 3 members, Martyr Privates are competent, and confidant, in packing a solid sonic punch, something reminiscent to Spector's wall. This short pop gem offers a glimpse into the aural density located on their debut LP.

Silly Joel & the Candymen - Dr. Seuss     Hip Hop, Hip Hop, Rap 29/07/2014
Australian hip hop that explores passion, feeling, and a strong sense of opinion. Nothing about thrift shops or social justice- only complex boasts, harsh battle raps and surreal one-liners.
The sample-heavy, medicinally enhanced production of "Dr. Seuss" accurately accompanies the lyrically bombastic tirade of menacing vocal deliveries from MC Silly Joel and his loyal accomplices, Fred Soque and Rob Feelins.

Ela Stiles - Kumbh Mela     Folk, Acappella, Ambience 26/07/2014
Comprised entirely of a-cappella performances, Stiles' debut is a complex and deliberately structured collection of sound, and as a whole is truly powerful.
An utterly unique offering from Ela Stiles, which grants the listener a candid invitation to explore her vocal performance. Refusing any accompaniment, the Sydney artist presents vocal patterns and layerings that are far more powerful than any amplified sound

Lower Plenty - Life/Thrills     Pop, Rock 24/07/2014
A departure from the harsher sounds of their other projects, Lower Plenty create beautifully melancholy, suburban-country music that’s made (and often performed) while sitting around the kitchen table.
The title track from the group's sophomore LP continues to explore the themes that bestowed Lower Plenty's debut with glowing reviews, topping many 'best of 2012' lists.

Known best for his work in Tasmanian freak-rock outfit The Native Cats, long-time Australian poet and sometimes stand up comedian Peter Escott unveils his solo opus, The Long O.
Eerie and difficult to pigeon hole, Escott's pop sensibility is gelled firmly together with an outsider's unique vision for his piano-driven lead single.
